I remember one Christmas, my dad bought my sisters and I all tapes. The one I got was "The Simpsons Sing the Blues" (Dad said I looked sad alot, and thought this would be a comical way to make me giggle) I ended up LOVING this tape. (yes, tape... NOT CD, not mp3, TAPE). I played it nonstop, and this song was one that I enjoyed the most. It was a while before I learned that Billie Holliday was the original singer, but I enjoyed way too much the saxophone in the back ground... I think it made the words stand out so strongly. There's so much interpretation to be had, but I don't like the mainstream, so I derive my own.
You must be strong. There's nothing that an independent child of God cannot have. However, the song is set to the blues. Which in my eyes means that she has her own, but she's still so unhappy about things. Shes sad that she has no one she can trust and truly lean on. She has been taken advantage of, and she's been hurt by it.
While only SOMETIMES can I relate to this song, the sax solo still moves me on so many levels. You may laugh... I mean hell, it's Lisa Simpson... but I enjoy it.
